Control my home

Opening and closing a front door

In this video, I am demonstrating how I open and close my front door with only the use of my voice. The products used include: one open sesame automatic door opener, a go-go gate garage door opener and an Amazon echo. The open sesame automatic door opener usually comes with a button that can be pressed to open the door but since I wanted to have access to this with my voice I wired in a go-go gate garage door opener that can be controlled with the Amazon echo. I used ifttt triggers to get these devices to interact with each other.

Being able to open enclose my door independently is incredibly important to my independence. Not only being able to exit my house in case of an emergency but having the freedom to go outside or enter my house when I choose is incredibly important. A special thank you to go-go gate for helping me research and find out their product was compatible with the open sesame automatic door opener.

room temperature

in this video I am demonstrating how I can adjust the thermostat in my home to my desired temperature. I use a nest thermostat and a Amazon echo to achieve this task. I use ifttt triggers to get these devices to interact.

Due to having a spinal cord injury I have a difficult time regulating my temperature which can unusually leave me hot or cold. Being able to change the temperature in my home easily is more important than I would’ve imagined thus being able to easily adjust the temperature contributes to my independence.

house lights

in this video i am demonstrating how i can control the lights in my house. i use a amazon echo and wemo light switches to achieve this task. you can use ifttt triggers or connect these two devices directly under the skills section on the amazon app.

since I am unable to use my arms the only way I can control my lights is by voice. Even though this is a simple task not being dependent on somebody else increases my independence.

space heater

in this video I am demonstrating how I can control space heater with voice commands. I use a Dyson link space heater and a Amazon echo to achieve this task. I connect these two devices under these skills section in the Amazon app.

Being a quadriplegic I have a difficult time regulating my temperature which leaves me feeling cold quite often. Rather than heating my entire house I am able to use the space heater to heat up only in the room I am spending time in. This increases my independence and comfort level.
